Tryout Policy
Spring Tryout Process
All new and returning players must tryout every year.
Tryouts are a 2-day process and all players must attend both days
to be eligible for team placement.
The Lakers' training organization (Future Pros) conducts the
tryouts and makes the final determination on team placement. Player
selection and team placement will be based on the following
criteria:
- Coaches evaluations for returning players
- Trainers evaluations for returning players
- Tryout evaluations for all players
Future Pros Trainers and the Tryout Committee will meet
approximately 24 hours after the completion of Day 2 of tryouts to
make an initial determination on the number of teams to be
formed at each age level and the number of players per
team. The Tryout Committee will also review the initial team
rosters for administrative errors prior to posting on the Lakers
website.
The initial teams will be posted on the Lakers website,
gelakers.com, within approximately 48 hours after the completion of
Day 2 of tryouts. A holding pool of any players not initially
placed on a team will also be posted at this time
Players initially posted to a team will have 24 hours to
accept the invitation to play with the Lakers organization on that
team. Players must accept on the Lakers web site,
gelakers.com. Players placed in a holding pool will not have
the option of accepting a team placement in the initial 24
hours.
If a player should decline or does not respond to the initial
invitation, the player will be placed at the bottom of the
holding pool. The player might be invited to join another team, at
that age group, if space later becomes available.
If a player declines to join his/her team, the next ranked
player from a lower team or the holding pool will be moved up
to that team and will then have 24 hours to accept or decline
a position on that team.
All players placed on lower teams or in the holding pool should
continue to check their team placement on the website after the
initial 24 hour period. Any player who is moved up from a
lower team will have the option of declining acceptance on the
higher team and still maintaining a roster spot on the lower
team.
The goal is to have all teams formed within 72 hours after the
initial posting of teams and the holding pool. All players
still remaining in the holding pool after teams have been
completely formed will be personnally contacted by a member of the
Tryout Committee.
Mid-Year Additions
Formal tryouts, if necessary, will be held in December for
Spring additions. Coaches will notify the Co-Rec or Girls
coordinator in November if there is a need to add to their roster
for the Spring season. Tryouts will be open to the public and
conducted by GETSO hired trainers.
If a team has an opening, any current Lakers player from the
same age group or a child from the general public, can try out for
the opening. Trainers will conduct the tryouts and make the
appropriate player placement. To avoid the perception of bias, the
trainers conducting the tryout will not be the current trainers for
the players participating in the tryout. If a Lakers player chooses
to tryout for another team at the same age group, he/she will not
lose their place on their current team if they are not
selected.
